Designing Reports that Your Users Will Understand (Invited/Featured Speaker)
Schoolzilla Data Champion Summit (Invited Speaker)
11:00 AM to 11:50 AM on March 8, 2017
Location: David Brower Center, Berkeley, CA
Event Information: https://schoolzilla.com/data-champion-summit-2017
Description: Data use is imperative to making decisions that help students. Yet numerous studies have led to the same conclusion: stakeholders do not correctly interpret most data they view. Findings suggest poorly designed data reports cause common user misunderstandings, but mistakes can be prevented with standards-based data report design. Participants in this session will learn which specific changes in data reporting can significantly improve users’ understanding of data so it can be used effectively. The presenter will use excerpts from her TED Talk and the class she teaches at University of Cambridge, share findings from her studies, and arm participants with tools and information to design reports their users will understand.
