Title: Engaging & Challenging Gifted Students
Description: Meeting the needs of all gifted students with varying idiosyncrasies and in classrooms of varying academic levels can be a challenge but is still a goal all teachers can reach. Dr. Rankin will share strategies from her book on engaging and challenging gifted students that can be applied at any school. Since the majority of Dr. Rankin’s former students were socioeconomically-disadvantaged English learners, she specialized in using differentiation and creative instruction (like gamification, project-based learning, highly interactive lessons, etc.) to ensure her gifted students were being challenged and engaged even as they learned alongside struggling learners. These strategies also work well in honors classes and gifted enrichment programs. Teachers will leave the session with new ways to meet the needs of their gifted students.
